The Paiyu Jacket is a highly warm and compressible down-insulated jacket, perfect for mountaineering and climbing in colder climates. Its innovative design features a dual-layer offset baffle construction and an integrated reflective layer for enhanced thermal efficiency.

With its unique construction, the Paiyu Jacket offers exceptional warmth and protection that exceeds expectations. It’s designed for high-altitude peaks, multi-day ski trips, and extended adventures in freezing conditions, making it a reliable choice for extreme environments.

The dual-layer offset baffles eliminate cold spots in many jackets with traditional stitch-through construction. This provides extra warmth with only a slight increase in weight, while the heat-reflective inner fabric boosts thermal efficiency. Despite its high insulation, the jacket remains less bulky than most and has a similar warmth, allowing for easy movement even on the coldest days.

The Mountain HC Insulated Hood adds essential protection for exposed summit pushes and adjusts easily to fit with or without a helmet. The jacket also features a secure inner zip pocket and two large internal mesh pockets to keep essential gear and water from freezing in plummeting temperatures.

Features

Insulation

  • The jacket is insulated with 269g (size large) of high-quality Duck Down, comprising a minimum 90/10 ratio and 700 fill power, delivering remarkable warmth with minimal weight and pack volume.
  • Insulation is meticulously optimised using a baffle-by-baffle construction method to maximise thermal efficiency for the amount of down used.
  • All down is ethically sourced, meeting both the DOWN CODEX© and RDS 3.0 standards to uphold the highest levels of animal welfare.
  • A unique DOWN CODEX© code is included with every product, allowing full traceability of the down’s origin and providing detailed information on down content and fill power.

Materials

  • The outer shell features DRILITE® LOFT with a PU coating and 40 Denier fabric, offering a lightweight yet highly durable barrier against the elements.
  • A 20 Denier woven downproof lining enhances breathability, comfort, and compressibility for easy packing.

Patterning & Design

  • A double-layer offset baffle construction is used throughout the jacket to eliminate cold spots while preserving excellent freedom of movement.
  • The cut is designed for compatibility with other mountain layers, ensuring it can be worn comfortably over existing gear when extra insulation is required.

Hood Configuration

  • The Mountain HC Insulated Hood is engineered for optimal use both with and without a helmet, offering superb comfort and reliable protection in alpine conditions.
  • External seams on the hood are kept to a minimum to improve resistance to wind and moisture.

Pocket Configuration

  • Two zipped handwarmer pockets and two chest pockets provide convenient access to essential items even when wearing a harness or rucksack.
  • An internal zipped security pocket offers safe storage for valuables.
  • Two large internal mesh pockets are ideal for keeping gloves, a water bottle, or other gear warm and close to the body.

Centre Front Zip

  • The centre front features a two-way YKK® moulded zip that remains easy to use while wearing gloves.
  • An offset insulated rear baffle behind the zip helps reduce heat loss and blocks wind penetration.

Cuffs & Sleeves Configuration

  • Cuffs are both adjustable and elasticated, allowing easy use with gloves and maintaining a secure seal.
  • Sleeves are tailored to enable unrestricted movement during technical activities.

Waist & Hem Construction

  • Dual tethered drawcords at the hem allow for precise adjustment and help to retain warmth in cold conditions.

Further Features

  • A lightweight stuff sack is included for compact storage and ease of transport.
  • The outer fabric is manufactured in Taiwan, combining quality and responsible sourcing.

Drilite Loft
Drilite® Loft is Mountain Equipment's exclusive range of highly water-repellent fabrics used in their insulated clothing and equipment. The original Drilite® Loft introduced almost 30 years ago, was years ahead of its time: a highly breathable, lightweight, and very water-repellent fabric. Those three hallmarks continue with their modern Drilite® Loft fabrics.
Down 700
Down is the finest insulator. Its warmth-to-weight ratio, compressibility, long lifespan, and softness are yet to be matched by manmade insulations. For all but the most serious expeditions, Duck Down is a great choice for both insulated clothing and equipment.
