Mountain Equipment Xenith II (1°C)
Mountain Equipment Xenith II (1°C)
Designed for those embarking on ultra-light backpacking and mountain treks during the summer season.
The Xenith II delivers maximum warmth with minimal weight. It has been specifically developed for ultra-light backpacking and summer alpine trekking. This sleeping bag incorporates 900 fill-power goose down and the remarkably light PLASMA 10D fabric, offering consistent comfort across multiple nights outdoors.
The Extreme Light series stands among the finest lightweight sleeping bags on the market today, blending outstanding warmth with impressively low weight and compact pack size. Importantly, it manages to achieve this while retaining the fit and functionality required for extended use in mountainous environments.
Previous iterations of the Xenith range were a long-standing favourite among the brand's team of climbers, having been relied upon for some of the most demanding alpine ascents in recent years, from the Himalaya and Karakoram to Alaska. At the same time, these bags have accompanied adventurers on classic routes in Patagonia, Yosemite and the European Alps, as well as long-distance treks and ski tours where every gram matters.
Now fully re-engineered, the Extreme Light collection—comprising the Xenith I, II and III—has undergone comprehensive enhancement. It represents the culmination of decades of mountain experience and in-house design knowledge. Specialist down sleeping bags have been the brand’s core since 1961, and they continue to be a passionate focus of the design and development team.
The PLASMA 10 Denier fabric used throughout is ultralight, breathable and highly compressible, and when combined with 900 fill-power goose down, it offers exceptional weight savings and compactness without sacrificing comfort. However, high-quality down is only as effective as the construction allows, and the use of vertical box wall baffles in the chest area and slanted baffles across the main body ensures that insulation remains precisely where it is needed, maximising thermal efficiency. This level of design sophistication is typically reserved for far bulkier expedition bags.
Many lightweight models on the market reach their low weight by cutting corners—shortening and narrowing the bag, limiting zips, and reducing complexity in the hood, footbox, and other critical features. While such choices may look good on paper, they compromise comfort and thermal performance in real mountain conditions. This brand takes a different approach—prioritising performance in the field. The Extreme Light range includes full-length, premium-quality zips, ergonomically advanced foot sections, and—in the Xenith II and III—well-designed hoods and integrated collars. These are sleeping bags made for those who genuinely look forward to slipping inside them each night, whether resting at a scenic camp or curled up on a cramped bivi ledge high in the mountains.
